  • The Educator will work primarily within Contemporary Art Start (CAS), the Museum’s year-long partnership program for 3rd-12th grade classrooms across Los Angeles County. Through CAS, MOCA invests in supporting teachers to lead inclusive discussions about contemporary art with their students using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS).

    Within this part-time position (12-20 hours per week), the Educator will primarily assist with the development and implementation of discussion-based tours for students and learner-centered professional development trainings for teachers within CAS, as well as assist with our family programs. Family programs include in-person events that incorporate guided tours and artmaking experiences as well as self-guided project spaces featuring accessible artmaking activities, and more.   • Position Title: Gift Shop Lead
    Position Type: Part-time – Hourly, Non-exempt
    Location: Onsite
    Work Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays, plus 1-2 additional weekdays- including some
    holidays. Shifts are 5 to 8 hours in duration, up to 20 hours per week to start. Hours may be
    subject to change based on the needs of the Foundation.
    Pay Range: $19-22/hour, depending on experience
    Position Summary:
    The Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation is seeking an individual with experience as a
    keyholder or shift supervisor in a boutique shop setting, with high standards of customer
    service, for our Gift Shop.
    As a member of the Gift Shop team, the Gift Shop Lead is responsible for welcoming guests
    to the Gift Shop, assisting them while they shop and check out, and maintaining a pleasant
    environment. The Lead will spend the majority of their shift assisting customers or
    performing other tasks to support gift shop operations. As a keyholder, the Lead will also be
    responsible for opening and closing the store, so a background check will be required.
    Duties will include, but are not limited to:
    • Providing warm, welcoming customer service to guests at all times
    • Acting as a source of information about both the products in the shop, as well as the
    LA Arboretum in general
    • Effectively ringing transactions up, including accurate cash-handling, processing
    returns and exchanges, and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise
    • Monitoring stock levels and restocking products on the sales floor throughout the day
    • Maintaining an organized and clean space, with daily light cleaning work
    • Checking in, tagging, and merchandising new items
    • Supervising and/or training Associates in operational tasks
    • Opening and closing the shop, including counting multiple cash drawers and safe
    • Communicating with the public, management, co-workers, and others courteously
    and professionally
    • Assisting the Store Manager and Assistant Manager as needed
    • Other related duties as assigned
    Required Skills and Abilities:
    • Outstanding customer service skills
    • Highly detail-oriented, especially as related to cash handling and inventory counts
    • Understanding of the boutique shop environment and the soft skills needed to deliver
    the boutique experience
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
    • Proficient with iPad-based apps; prior experience with Shopify POS and barcode
    scanners preferred
    • Consistent weekend and holiday availability is required (excluding Thanksgiving Day
    and Christmas Day)
    • Proficient in English in both written and verbal form; bilingual skills are a plus
    (especially Spanish and Chinese)
    • Interest in or passion for the LA Arboretum and/or our mission to cultivate our
    natural, horticultural, and historic resources for learning, enjoyment, and inspiration
    Bonus Qualifications:
    • Experience with or an eye for boutique retail merchandising
    • Experience with Blackbaud Altru
    Education and Experience:
    • Prior experience working as a keyholder in a boutique shop environment with a high
    standard of customer service
    • Experience with cash handling and POS systems
    • High school degree or GED equivalent
    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
    • Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled indoor setting with the
    typical noise of a store setting including background music, and multiple voices
    speaking at once
    • Regular communication- both verbal and written, including speaking and listening
    • Prolonged periods standing and moving around the sales floor, including
    lifting/carrying items, climbing a step stool or small ladder, and reaching above your
    head
    • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds

  • Position Title: Membership Associate
    Position Type: Part-time – Hourly, Non-exempt
    Location: Onsite
    Work Schedule:
    Thursday–Tuesday General hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the position requires 18-24 hours per week, scheduled over three days. Availability on Mondays and select holidays is required. The schedule may vary based on the needs of the Foundation.

    Position Summary:
    The Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation is seeking a temporary Membership Associate with a strong background in customer service and membership support. This position plays a key role in welcoming members and prospective members to the garden and processing membership-related requests.
    The Membership Associate will primarily focus on front-facing customer service and provide administrative support, including assembling member packets, restocking materials for events, and assisting with database maintenance. Occasional support for special membership events may be required.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provide courteous and effective customer service in-person and over the phone.
    • Sell and renew memberships, upsell to visitors, and promote membership upgrades to meet department sales goals.
    • Maintain and update membership records in the database.
    • Respond to member inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with members of the public, co-workers, and supervisors.
    • Assist the Membership Manager with various administrative and operational tasks.
    • Support membership-related events and assist with preparation and logistics.

    Qualifications:

    • Work is primarily performed indoors in a professional office setting.
    • Must be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
    • Frequent use of computers and other standard office equipment.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks such as typing.

    The Education Coordinator is articulate, proactive, disciplined, outgoing, and organized. The Coordinator will have experience teaching students at various grade levels and an understanding of standards-based art education practices. Knowledge of contemporary crafts is a plus. An undergraduate degree in art history, museum studies, art education, studio art, or a related field is required. The Coordinator should have strong verbal and written communication skills and design abilities.     Summary
    The Norton Simon Museum seeks a Director of Education and Public Programs to oversee and develop the educational initiatives at the Norton Simon Museum, which serve children and their families, students and teachers, lifelong learners and people with disabilities. A leader in the Museum’s audience development and engagement efforts, the Director of Education and Public Programs is a strategic thinker with a passion for the arts, museums and museum education, and has experience managing and motivating a diverse group of staff. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Vice President of External Affairs and manages one full-time coordinator, one part-time assistant, and a group of 15 paid museum educators.

    Responsibilities
    • Oversees the Museum’s educational initiatives and manages the education and public program department
    • Develops, coordinates, implements and assesses education-related events, lectures, performances, classes, and adult and school tour programs
    • Researches and writes curricula on the Museum’s special exhibitions and permanent collection for schools and teachers
    • Manages the full-time education coordinator, part-time education assistant and group of paid museum educators
    • Recruits, trains and provides feedback for the Museum educators, who lead 5-12th-grade school tours, private and general public tours, and family programs
    • Collaborates with the curatorial team on developing exhibition-related programs for diverse audiences, including a robust lecture series
    • Reviews exhibition didactics and provides guidance to the curatorial team
    • Collaborates with the Senior Manager of External Affairs and Digital Content on special digital projects and member programs

    Qualifications
    This position requires at least 7 years of progressive museum education experience, familiarity with curriculum guidelines, California State Standards, and lesson plan development. Excellent interpersonal, writing, public speaking and computer skills are required. The ideal candidate possesses a positive attitude, sound judgement and is team-oriented. M.A. degree in art history, art education, museum education, or related field is highly desirable, as are foreign language skills. Prior management experience is required. A valid California driver’s license and personal automobile insurance are required.

    Physical Requirements
    This position requires moderate lifting, stretching, reaching, bending, and occasional long periods of sitting and standing. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

    Schedule
    This is a full-time, exempt position regularly scheduled to work 37.50 hours per week: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with occasional availability for evening and weekend programs.

    Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, and includes excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance and a generous pension program.

  • Armory Center for the Arts based in Pasadena, California, is seeking a part-time Teaching Artist to lead letterpress studio classes for teens and adults.

    General Duties, Responsibilities, Essential Functions

    • Develop and teach letterpress classes and workshops for students of varying skill levels, sometimes offered as a 10 week session. 

    • Curriculum planning, in-class instruction, prep and clean-up for each session (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer).

    • Maintain and operate a variety of letterpress equipment, including cylinder presses. 

    • Provide classroom management in an open space studio environment where multiple classes occur simultaneously.
