The Museum Educators of Southern California was formally founded in 1977 and obtained 501 (c)(3) status.

One of the oldest museum education professional organizations in the country, at approximately 220 members MESC is also one of the largest. MESC has undertaken many programs and provided Southern California museum educators with professional development, theoretical discourse, practical training, and networking.
